Nursing Services

APS Nurses uniquely enhance the educational process for APS students by utilizing a standards/evidence-based practice to help students achieve academic excellence and to promote a quality, safe learning and working environment.

The role of Nursing Services in the schools is to maintain health records and handle emergencies. Parents and students can help to improve these services by submitting all immunizations records at registration. These will prevent delay in class attendance. It is also very important that we have correct phone numbers of all students. In case of emergency all efforts will be made to notify parents. In emergencies, 911 will be called for emergency treatment and/or transportation to an emergency room. Parents will be responsible for any emergency charges that are incurred.

It is APS policy that no medication be given to any student in the health office except under the following conditions: A medication order (available in the nurse’s office) from the physician with the name of the medication to be given, the dosage, and when it is to be given; the container with the medication must be labeled with the name of the student, the name of the medication and the strength and the dosage of the medication. In most cases, students should take their own medication. It is recommended that if a student needs to bring medication to school that he/she bring only enough for each day.
