Meet the Principal
Hello Mustangs!
I'm Michele Torres, and I couldn’t be more excited to introduce myself as the proud principal of West Mesa High School! After more than 25 years as a teacher and administrator, I can confidently say that my most important role is right here! I’m beyond thrilled to dive into this adventure with our amazing students.
I’ll be spending loads of time getting to know each and every Mustang—learning what makes them who they are, celebrating their big wins, and the little ones too! Every day, I’ll remind them just how special they are, how much they matter, and that they’ve got a unique spot in our school community.
But it’s not just about the students. I’m also looking forward to partnering with all of you! Together, we’ll create a safe, happy, and healthy environment where your students can thrive and learn as much as possible. This has always been my guiding philosophy since I started teaching with Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) back in 1995. From teaching 4th and 5th grades to being an instructional coach, assistant principal, and now principal, I’ve learned that there’s nothing more important than ensuring our kids feel safe, supported, and inspired.
On a personal note, my greatest joy comes from my family. I’ve been married to Mark Torres, a Deputy Commander with APD, for 30 wonderful years. We have two fantastic kids, Marcos and Mitchell, and I’m a proud “Honey” to our adorable granddaughter, Ellia. It’s often said that I treat every child in my school like my own, and that’s a promise I intend to keep. I’ll work tirelessly to make sure your children have the best possible experience at West Mesa.
Once again, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this amazing community. I can’t wait to get to know you and your students, and I’m looking forward to an incredible year together!
