Yearbook History
The history of West Mesa...
It all started in West Mesa High School's founding year, 1967. At that time the yearbook was called El Chicote, meaning "The Whip" in English. Then, around 1984, the yearbook was renamed El Espiritu, meaning "The Spirit" in English. Regardless of its title, the student-produced West Mesa High School yearbook has been capturing the history of our school since its very beginning! Countless Mustang alumni have enjoyed the rich traditions of West Mesa High School as captured through the hard work of student yearbook journalists, allowing them to recall the people and moments that made life during high school a memorable and unforgettable experience.
Now in its 60th year of publication, the WMHS yearbook staff of El Espiritu proudly carries on the time-honored tradition of chronicling the determination and excellence of the Mustangs year after year after year. GO MUSTANGS!

2026 Senior Portraits
Senior portraits for the yearbook starts May 14th, 2025 & will be taken this year by Kenneth Brown Photography* and your senior photo session needs to be done during this summer.
There are tons of different session options including
Any session below will get you yearbook photos to get into the Senior Section of the yearbook.
- Free Yearbook Only sessions at the studio** (May 28th - June 7th) - 1 outfit
- $30 - 1 Outfit "Mini" session after June 7th - $30
- $40 "Grad" indoor session at studio (2 outfits indoor)
- $79 "Super Senior" Indoor & Outdoor session at studio (1 outfit outdoor + 1 outfit indoor)
- $89 "On Location" photo shoots (UNM Duck Pond, Old Town, Bosque, Grafitti Alley, Downtown, Elena Gallegos- only available on specific days - these include 1 outfit and are nice outdoor options at a great price!)
*All seniors who would like to be in senior section of yearbook must take a yearbook photo with Kenneth Brown Photography
**The studio is located at 207 Candelaria NW Suite B, Albuquerque, NM 87107.
